Wheelchair Ramps Website
One of the 1st website I built was Wheelchair Ramps
This was back in 2001 just before the DDA was changed to include more ephasis on accessIbility and when not many people were selling wheelchair ramps online.
The website started of as a hobby website which I was using whilst experimenting with SEO but when people started contacting me wanting to buy wheelchair ramps I decided to start a business and taking more of an interest in the site.
For a number of years it was number 1 in Google for Wheelchair Ramps, Access Ramps, Disabled Ramps, etc. and although I only ran it as a part time, home based business I was selling enough ramps that I could give up work and concentrate full time on webwork and providing Warwickshire SEO Services.
Sales started to drop as more retailrs started selling ramps, I neglected the site for a long time and eventually it started dropping lower and lower in Google
I made a consious desicion to only sell one suppliers ramps at a time rather than make it a website that sold a range of ramps from multiple suppliers, but unfortunately this meant the ramps I was selling were considerably more expensive than what could be bought elsewhere.
Rather than switch suppliers or adding other suppliers ramps to the site I basically just wound it down and then a couple of years later decided to switch it to an information site rather than a selling site and provided information about ramp regulations, ramp gradients, what width of ramp was required, etc.
This has resulted in the website being as busy as it ever was regarding website visitors, but not really benefitting from it.
With this in mind, I started including Google Adsense on the pages which now generate enough income to pay for the hosting, my time to keep the site updated and a little bit of pocket money.
I very rarely sell ramps anymore, but still get lots of enquiries which I tend to just send to my old supplier.
